The Greater Tampa Bowling Association (GTBA) shall have a committee known as the Hall of Fame Committee.
The purpose of the Hall of Fame Committee shall be to perpetuate the names of those who have displayed outstanding ability in the sport of American Tenpins and/or have contributed meritorious service to the reputation and progress of bowling in the area served by the GTBA.
The Hall of Fame shall be an official function of the GTBA and membership in the GTBA Hall of Fame shall be determined by annual election.
GTBA Obligations to the Hall of Fame Members
- The expenses of operating the Hall of Fame shall be borne by the GTBA.
- All members of the TBA, TWBA and Tampa YABA Hall of Fame (prior to the establishment of USBC) will have their USBC memberships paid for by the GTBA each season.
- One USBC membership card (without Sport Upgrade) per season will be issued to all Hall of Fame bowlers that still participate in USBC certified events.
- Suitable awards shall be presented to persons inducted in the GTBA Hall of Fame. These awards shall be presented at a ceremony such as a dinner, banquet, annual meeting of the GTBA or at the association annual championship tournament. The GTBA Board of Directors should decide upon the event. In the case of posthumous awards, they should be presented to a family member of the deceased.
- The Hall of Fame selection criteria and/or procedures may be amended by the GTBA Board of Directors by a two-thirds vote.
Committee Members - Any person nominated for the Hall of Fame cannot serve on the committee that may elect her or him.
Committee Chairperson - The Hall of Fame Committee chairperson shall be appointed by the President of the GTBA.
Other Committee Members – The Committee Chairperson shall pick a 7 member committee consisting of:
- Three (3) non Hall of Fame members of the GTBA composed of one (1) male member, one (1) female member and one (1) Youth Board member (does not have to be an officer and/or director of the GTBA)
- Three (3) Hall of Fame members drawn from the merged Hall of Fame.
- One (1) member to be selected by the committee that is NOT an officer or director of the GTBA or Hall of Fame member (i.e. member of the sports media, representative of another sport, league bowler, bowling center staff, etc).
- The GTBA President and Association Manager shall be ex-officio members of the Hall of Fame Committee. The President may vote as a “tie breaker” if no committee selected member is available. The Association Manager may, in the absence of the President, assume the President’s committee duties.
- A quorum at all meetings of the Hall of Fame Committee shall be a majority of the committee members (excluding the President and Association Manager).
Hall of Fame Categories
There will be four (4) categories of Hall of Fame induction. The categories are:
- Youth Superior Bowling Abilities - Bowlers in this category shall have received local recognition for their bowling prowess and have maintained a high average for a minimum of 5 years while displaying a high degree of sportsmanship
- Youth Meritorious Service - Outstanding youth volunteers who through their efforts and devotion to service improved the quality and standards of bowling and enriched the bowling experience for our members
- Adult Superior Bowling Abilities - Bowlers in this category shall have received local recognition for their bowling prowess and have maintained a high average for a minimum of 10 years while displaying a high degree of sportsmanship. The candidate must have bowled a minimum of six (6) association tournaments (TBA, TWBA, and/or GTBA).
- Adult Meritorious Service - Outstanding adult volunteers who through their efforts and devotion to service improved the quality and standards of bowling and enriched the bowling experience for our members.
Candidate Qualifications
Youth Superior Bowling Abilities
- All candidates in this category must be (or have been) a member in good standing of the GTBA (and/or the previous Tampa YABA) for a minimum of 5 years (unless career was ended by an injury, disability, or death)
- Cannot be out of the youth eligibility program (as defined by the USBC) for more than 1 year due to ineligibility
- Must have (or have held) a verified GTBA average for at least 5 years (unless career was ended by an injury, disability, or death)
- A candidate must have bowled in a minimum of three (3) association tournaments (unless career was ended by an injury, disability, or death)
- Must have an 700+ 3 game series or multiple honor awards such as 300/299/298 or 11-in-a-Row
- Must have received local recognition for their bowling prowess while displaying a high degree of sportsmanship
Youth Meritorious Service
All candidates in this category must be (or have been) a member in good standing of the GTBA (and/or the previous Tampa YABA) or provided a service (i.e. youth leader, youth board member, etc.) to bowlers as a youth (as defined by the USBC) for a minimum of 5 years (unless career was ended by an injury, disability, or death)
Adult Superior Bowling Abilities
- All candidates in this category must be (or have been) a member in good standing of the GTBA (and/or the previous TBA, TWBA) for a minimum of 10 years(unless career was ended by an injury, disability, retirement or death)
- Must have (or have held) a minimum GTBA verified average of 200 for men and 190 for women for at least 10 years (unless career was ended by an injury, disability, retirement or death)
- A candidate must have bowled in a minimum of six (6) association tournaments (unless career was ended by an injury, disability, retirement or death)
- Must have an 800 series or multiple honor awards such as 300/299/298 game; 11-ina-Row
- Must have received local recognition for their bowling prowess while displaying a high degree of sportsmanship
Adult Meritorious Service
All candidates in this category must be (or have been) a member in good standing of the GTBA (and/or the previous TBA, TWBA) or provided a service (i.e. league leader, association board member, etc.) to bowlers as an adult for a minimum of 10 years (unless career was ended by an injury, disability, retirement or death)
Nominations to the Hall of Fame
- Any member of the GTBA may submit nominations, along with the nominee’s qualifications and achievements on a GTBA application form which must be submitted to the Association Manager of the GTBA by December 31 of the calendar year being submitted (must be postmarked by that date if mailed).
- The Hall of Fame Committee members also may present names of candidates for consideration following the same procedures as above.
- Membership to the GTBA Hall of Fame may be selected from living persons or may be made posthumously.
- A nominee may be elected only once to each category in the same calendar year
- A nominee may only be elected once to the Hall of Fame ( ex. cannot be elected as a youth then as an adult)
- Nominee applications will be kept for three (3) continuous years By the Hall of Fame Committee if the nominee is not selected in the year submitted. If no selection is made in three years the application of the nominee must be resubmitted.
- A letter will be sent to the submitter from the Association Manager notifying them of the action taken
- A letter will be sent to the selected inductee from the Association Manager notifying them of the action taken
Method of Selection
- Selection of a Hall of Fame inductee shall be made by the Hall of Fame Committee based on the selection process outlined in this document
- There shall be a maximum of two (2) inductees (1 male and 1 female) per category in any calendar year
- Youth achievements will NOT be considered for Adult categories
- During the selection process only the Association Manager will know the nominee identities
Selection Process
All Categories
- The Association Manager will, to the best of his/her ability, verify the performance claims and insure that there is no documented cause (suspension, revocation, etc.) that would make the nominee ineligible
- All timely verified nominee applications received by the Association Manager will be modified by the Association Manager to delete any reference to the nominee’s name, address, race, color, disability, religion, age, or national origin prior to being given to the committee for selection. The only identifiable nominee feature received by committee members will be a number and the nominated category
- All untimely nominee applications will be saved for the next calendar year and a letter sent by the Association Manager to the submitter informing them of the action taken
Superior Bowling Abilities Category
When there is more than one (1) nominee, the committee will use a point system to determine which nominee to induct. Points will be assigned to each single achievement (For example, if a 300 game is worth 5 points and a bowler has 5 300 games then to bowler will receive 25 points for 300 games). The nominee with the highest point total will be inducted that year. The remaining nominees will be returned to the Association Manager.

Meritorious Service Category
When there is more than one (1) nominee, the committee will use a point system to determine which nominee to induct. Points will be assigned to each single achievement (For example, being a President for one year is worth 1 point; if a nominee has been a League and Board President for 20 years then the bowler will receive 4 points for President). Five (5) points will be added to cover each service performed that is not in the point table (ex. League Founder, Youth Advisor, Delegate etc.). The nominee with the highest point total will be inducted that year. The remaining nominees will be returned to the Association Manager.
